Week 1, Chapter 01: The Business of Medicine

Overview of coding as a profession.

Week 2, Chapter 02: Anatomy and Terminology

Introduction of the basic elements of human anatomy and review of medical vocabulary and terminology.

Week 3, Chapter 03: Introduction to ICD-10-CM

Overview of the ICD-10-CM coding manual and guidelines.

Week 4, Chapters 04 & 05: ICD-10-CM Coding Chapters 1-21

Coding guidelines for chapters 1-21 of the ICD-10 CM codebook.

Week 5, Chapter 06: Introduction to CPT®, Surgery Guidelines, HCPCS, and Modifiers

Introduction to Current Procedure Terminology (CPT©), surgery guidelines, Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) and Modifiers used to report health care services performed by health care providers and surgeons in the United States.

Week 6, Chapter 07: Integumentary System; Chapter 08: Musculoskeletal System

Introduction of the integumentary system (skin, hair, nails, sebaceous and sweat glands and nerves). Review how muscles and bones work together to form the frame work of the body; musculoskeletal system.

Week 7, Chapter 09: Respiratory, Hemic, Lymphatic, Mediastinum, Diaphragm

Discuss CPT©, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS Level II coding for the respiratory system, the hemic and lymphatic systems, and the mediastinum and diaphragm.

Week 8, Chapter 10: Cardiovascular System

Review cardiovascular procedures and surgeries.

Week 9, Chapter 11: Digestive System

Review the major function of the digestive system and the anatomy associated with key procedures and learn to assign appropriate CPT surgery codes.

Week 10, Chapter 12: Urinary System and Male Genital System; Chapter 13: Reproductive Systems, Female Genital System, and Maternity

Explore the anatomy and function of the Urinary and Mail Genital System; kidneys, ureters, bladder and urethra. Discuss CPT©, ICD-10-CM and HCPCS level II coding for the female reproductive system.

Week 11, Chapter 14: Endocrine System and Nervous System

Learn CPT©, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS Level II coding for the Endocrine and Nervous systems.

Week 12, Chapter 15: Eye and Ocular Adnexa, Auditory Systems

Review how the Eye and Ocular Adnexa and auditory systems work together to serve our senses.

Week 13, Chapter 16: Anesthesia; Chapter 17: Radiology

Review coding guidelines for anesthesia services and the radiology branch of medicine.

Week 14, Chapter 18: Pathology/Laboratory

Discuss CPT©, ICD-10-CM and HCPCS Level II codes related to pathology and laboratory services.

Week 15, Chapter 19: Evaluation and Management; Chapter 20: Medicine

Review coding guidelines of Evaluation and Management (E/M). Introduction to a diverse group of noninvasive or minimally invasive services.
