Sunnie Bethea is a Certified Professional Coding Instructor as well as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT). She has a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Science which she obtained from Gwynedd Mercy College. She has been in the Healthcare Administration field for over 20 years. She has been a certified coder for over 13 years and has experience in professional and hospital settings.
Sunnie Bethea began her career at Cooper University Hospital in 1999 as a Payment Posting Specialist. It was at that time she learned about the many opportunities related to healthcare administration. She decided the best way to gain knowledge of these fields was to return to school. Sunnie enrolled at Camden County College where she earned an Associate Degree in Health Information Management while obtaining her Medical Coding Certification. Due to her experience as a Certified Coder, Sunnie became very knowledgeable in the many areas that make up the healthcare administration field. Her experience includes management, coding, billing, charge master, auditing, compliance, education, risk adjustment and more.
Currently Sunnie Bethea is employed at a Federally Qualified Healthcare Facility. Her primary duties involve educating physicians on documenting patient Electronic Health Records (EHR) properly to ensure accurate medical coding. Sunnie became a Certified Coding Instructor and has been teaching medical coding since 2016. She also prepares staff members to sit for their Certified Professional Coding exam. Under Sunnie’s guidance, 60% of her enrolled students have passed the Certified Professional Coding Exam.
